Then. Now. Next: Seven Years of Shaping HR

Exciting changes are on the horizon for Lisa Isaac HR Professional Services (“LIHR”) as we

approach our 7th anniversary. We’ll soon be sharing our vision for the future, but before we turn our focus to the path forward, I’d like to take you behind the scenes of our evolution—from a bold idea to a thriving business—one step, one lesson, and one milestone at a time.

Reflecting on the past

In July 2018, after leaving the corporate world,  I was asked to provide HR services to a local HVAC company. The company needed guidance but didn’t need a full-time HR professional on staff. Recognizing the need for strategic HR support, without the commitment of a full-time hire, sparked the creation of Lisa Isaac HR Professional Services (LIHR). There was, and continues to be, a great demand for personalized and experienced HR support for small businesses. After just four months, LIHR added its first employee to keep up with this demand.

Since then, we have faced our fair share of challenges, but each one has made us stronger. As a first-time business owner, I have learned through trial and error, as well as through valuable guidance from my many mentors and coaches.

Celebrating successes

Our clients’ success stories and word-of-mouth recommendations are a testament to the value that the team provides to small businesses, not-for-profits, and Indigenous organizations. With almost 30 employees and interns through the years, we have partnered with over 120 different clients and worked on over 225 projects to date. We have worked with brand new start-ups, new and seasoned leaders, and boards of directors all across Canada, the USA, Brazil, Ireland, and the Caribbean.

Connections can develop over something as simple as a cup of coffee. A meaningful chapter in our journey began like this when a woman who was moving her family from northern Ontario reached out to discuss a public speaking opportunity in the local area. We hit it off, chatting about all sorts of things, and she recommended our services to her friend, an Executive Director for a not-for-profit in Thunder Bay. Not only did we have the opportunity to support that organization, but the Executive Director also invited us to join her in working with two additional not-for-profits—partnerships that are still going strong today.

Receiving the Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Achievement Award for Inclusivity in 2024 further supports our efforts to walk the talk of creating sustainable, productive, and effective workplaces.

Looking to the future

I am so grateful for the trust and confidence placed in us over the years, and I’m excited to keep it going. Although some exciting changes are underway, the personalized, high-quality support you’ve come to expect from LIHR will remain at the heart of everything we do. The support from our team, clients, and the community has been invaluable, and we’ll continue to show our thanks by giving back in every way we can.
